Poll
Shows ASU Students Supporting Nathan Tabor in 5th District Race
Boone, NC
ñ A recently released ASU College Republican poll shows
congressional candidate Nathan Tabor leading the pack of eight
announced Republican candidates vying to replace outgoing
Representative Richard Burr in the Fifth Congressional District with
43 percent of the vote. The second highest vote getter was Virginia
Foxx, State Senator from North Carolinaís 45th District, who
garnered 27%. Ed Broyhill was a close third with 26%. Jay
Helvey 1.3%. Vernon Robinson 2.1%. Ed Powell 0.0%. Joe
Byrd 0.0%. The poll was conducted over a two-week time period
on the Appalachian State University College Republicans Website (www.asurepublicans.com).
A total of 238 voters chose to participate in the online poll.
ìAs a federated group, CRís are not allowed to endorse any
candidate in the primary election,î said Justin Moore, campus
chairman of the ASU College Republicans. ìWe have invited
all of the candidates to speak at our weekly meetings and a number
have shown up. We felt this was the best way to get a feel for how
Republicans on campus are gauging the 5th District race.î
The poll was open to any visitor to the Appalachian College
Republican website. An online security guard was put in place to
make sure that only one vote per IP address was cast. Webmaster
Michael E.C. Schroeder stated that the poll was a idea brought
before the Executive board a few weeks ago. It was decided then to
have the poll open for two weeks and only advertise the poll to
members to limit skewing by individual candidates and their
campaigns.
