Broadband Expansion a Key to Job Growth for 5th District & Nation

Tabor Calls for Reduction of Regulatory Barriers

Kernersville, NC ñ Nathan Tabor, candidate for North Carolinaís 5th Congressional District, called for an identification and reduction of regulatory barriers that prevent broadband from being accessible to both small businesses and families at home. Citing various studies, Tabor says that he will take the fight for a greater distribution of technology by seeking to cut red tape.

Between 1996 and 2000, hundreds of billions of dollars were spent on various technologies including fiber optics, routers and other necessary infrastructure that built a high-speed network. Now, Tabor contends, that Americans must realize the full potential of this network to create jobs.

ìWe need a better understanding from regulators and the lawmakers to address this problem. Over 31 percent of homes nationally have a broadband connection; I know first hand how small family businesses can grow by using this technology. More importantly, I know how good high paying jobs can be created to offset the losses we have seen in manufacturing and other industries,î said Tabor.

"At my familyís company, Revival Soy, we have grown from an operation out of my parents basement to an employer of over 130 people in six years. Great portions of our sales are through the Internet. Our market is not just Kernersville, or even North Carolina; it is quite frankly the entire globe. The 5th District can benefit greatly if we elect someone who understands what having access to technology can mean,î Tabor continued.

ìThe bottom line is we must find new high paying industries and services for our people here at home. Americans are some of the smartest and most innovative people on the planet. We can turn our loss of jobs into an opportunity to build a stronger more viable economy here at home. We have a history of performance. We can force the Chinese and other foreign competitors to play ìcatch upî with us again.î
